Soils
Description
All spots, stains, dust and other
foreign material like hair, lint and grit) are classified under the
category of soil.
Oily soils are harmful
and a prolonged build-up may be impossible to remove completely. Not
only do greasy soils damage the fibers themselves, but they also
trap other soils and bind them to the fibers.
Gritty soils damage and erode the fibers if allowed to remain
in the carpet. These may cause irreversible damage to the appearance
that can not be treated by removing this soil at a later date.
Cause
The carpet and rugs collect dirt and debris in
the course of daily use. This is more acute in high traffic
areas.
Treatment
The best way to prevent soil
build-up is regular maintenance and cleaning with vacuum cleaners
(see our section on "Carpet Care" for more information),
timely spot removal and a regular schedule of professional cleaning
as and when required.
