Bleeding of Dyes
Description
Under the influence of moisture colors in your rug may
appear to "run" or "bleed". Often
this is observed as darker dyes spreading to the lighter
areas on the rug.
Cause
Dye bleeding is caused by defective or weak dyes running
off ad staining near-by fibers. A dye may run if:
- weak dyes are used for dyeing of fibers
- too much dye is used
- dye is affected by factors like sunlight,
presence of chemicals or fumes.
Once the weaend dyes cime in conyact with moisture
(cleaning), they bleed.
Treatment
The only treatment for this problem is prevention; all
dyed fibers in your rug must be tested for weak dyes in
an inconspicuous area before cleaning or spotting.
