Oriental Rugs: A Web Based Training Course
About the course

Navigation Help

Navigating this web based training course is simple and intuitive. You do not have to be very tech-savvy or a computer whiz to be able to explore and use it - all you need is a basic acquaintance with internet, web browsers (like Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator and America Online Browser) and know how to use a computer, keyboard and mouse. You can learn more about these basic technical issues like computers, internet and WBT.
This course is divided into seven chapters with a number of topics within a chapter. Details of the content covered is available in the Content Outline. You can either navigate through the Study Route or through the Quiz Route or a combination of both. Also, you can either go through the chapters in the given order, or in any order that you like! If you feel confident about a particular topic, you don't even have go through the study material - you can take the associated quiz. And don't worry if you don't pass it on the first or even the second try... you can try it as many times as you like - but certain restrictions apply. (There's nothing called a free lunch!)

Study Route: Each chapter contains study material and quizzes. The study material contains all the information required to attempt the quiz. So, we recommend that you at least browse through it, if only to refresh your memory. Then you can take the quiz.
The course will automatically bookmark the section last visited. So, if you are coming back to this course after a break, you can go to directly where you had left last time.

Quiz Route: The quiz route takes you to all quizzes, without going through the study material. But if  a quiz has you stumped, don't worry - you can go to associated section by clicking on the 'Quiz Route' button.

At any point of time in the course, you can switch from the Study Route to Quiz Route and vice-versa.

Glossary: While taking the course, if you come across a term that is unfamiliar, you can check it up in the built-in Glossary. If you are looking for a list of recommended reading, look at the Bibliography.

Assignments: Each student is also required to prepare an assignment and submit a report (100 to 250 words) on their assignment. The instructor will evaluate this report. These reports may also be published on the web site.

Following are some of the recommended topics for the assignments:

  • Study five (5) different types of popular rugs sold in one of your local rug stores. Please note the label on the rugs, fiber of the rugs and their backings.
  • Write a brief description of any one traditional design of Oriental rugs and their present production.
  • Write a term paper on the colors and designs of Navajo Rugs.
  • Write a term paper on the hand-tufted rugs. You may gather information on this type of rugs from your leading local rug stores.
  • Visit a leading hardware store in your area and study some of the leading types of rugs sold there. Please note the label on the rugs, fiber of the rugs and their backings.
  • Please note that the instructor has a list of recommended assignments. However, students are allowed and actually encouraged to select their own topics for assignments, with written approval from the instructor.

If you are still facing some problems, you can contact the Instructor or contact your classmates from anywhere in the course!
